Information to authors

On the grounds of Order of Rector of Kaunas University of Technology of 21 December 2021 Nr. A-519 approving the regulations of the order of publishing, annually, a plan of needs for the issue of publications is approved, according to which, the process of publication in the current year is implemented at the KTU Publishing House “Technologija”.

When an author representing KTU wishes to prepare a scientific or study-related publication, first of all, the intermediate steps must be taken in terms of the relevant paperwork. Flowcharts of the processes before submitting the manuscript to the printing house are presented: Presentatin of scientific publication and Presentation of study-related publication.

Order of Rector of Kaunas University of Technology of 20 September 2022 Nr. A-328 establishes the Publishing Committee of the University. All resolutions of the Committee are recorded in the Committee minutes.

Applications regarding science and study publications shall be sent to the Administrator of the Publishing Committee Jurgita Ivanauskaitė via e-mail leidyba@ktu.lt

When the required paperwork regarding the publication has been presented and a contract has been signed, the work of publishing is initiated. Detailed presentation of the work of publishing can be found at: Sequence of publishing process.

Editing

Editing is an indispensable first step in the publishing process. During the editing process, lexical, grammatical and syntactic errors are eliminated, the order and style of the text are considered, and inappropriate terms are replaced with more suitable equivalents. Editors also consider the nature of the text, its objectives and intended audience, and the means of presentation, among other factors that impact the text’s style. Thorough editing of the initial draft minimises the likelihood of errors in the final version of the text.

Editors only work with .doc and .docx files. Track changes are used for text editing. Once the author has received the edited text, all the changes are visible. When reviewing the edited version, the author can use track changes to make further changes or provide comments.

Design

Design is a creative process that enables designers to develop a publication’s overall appearance using photographs, plain text, and other elements. The publishing house’s experience of conducting various design projects ensures an excellent combination of creative ideas while considering the client’s needs and emphasising the individuality of each publication.

Once the editing stage is complete, the publication’s design and layout are created. Publication design at the KTU Publishing House “Technologija” is contemporary and innovative. The publishing house can also suggest innovative printing and e-publication design solutions. For more information, see the Design and Layout section.

Layout

The layout stage involves creating a layout for the publication ready for printing using specialised software, once the textual and visual material provided by the customer and/or created by a designer has been processed. The layout is then prepared for publication.

Printing

The printing department at the KTU Publishing House “Technologija” performs all the preparatory and printing work required for publication. For more information, see the Printing section.

Guidelines for the preparation of publications

When preparing a book for publication, authors usually have a number of questions. To ensure the publishing process runs smoothly and efficiently, the manuscript needs to conform to specific standards and be presented to the publishing house. Illustrations (figures) should be submitted separately.
