FAQ

Here you can find clear answers and practical insights that guide you from the publishing process through to purchases in the e-shop.

Design and layout

  1. The title of the publication or another product
  2. The specific format of the product: values for printed products are presented in millimeters (width/height); values for internet publications are presented in pixels (width/height)
  3. The number of pages of the new product (if it contains more than two pages)
  4. The color range of the printed publication or another product;
  5. Any requested additional services (such as hardcover, gluing, binding in coils, cutting, varnishing, etc.)
  6. The print run in units

Design is the creative process of drawing and technical presentation, performed by a designer, which creates the visual presentation of a publication (or any other product) from illustrations, photos (or other types of figures), plain text and other constituent parts. Layout production is the technical preparation of the layout of the publication by using specialized software, when the textual and visual information provided by the customer, after processing by the designer, is prepared for printing or publication in the e-space.

  1. The final version of the text is presented in the .doc format (only with the required text formatting). The main requirements are presented at Preparation of a manuscript for layout work.
  2. Logos (trademarks) and illustrations (figures) are presented in the vector formats .eps or .pdf.
  3. If the publication uses any graphs, schemes, etc., together with the text, open files available for processing (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) must be presented.
  4. Pictures, figures or any other graphical material shall be presented in separate files (and NOT in the same word file) in one of the following formats: .jpg; .tiff; .png; .gif.
  5. The printing process preferably uses the.tiff format pictures as the .tiff format visual material preserves the pixel colors of the initial version at 100 percent. Some sies of pictures are only suitable for the Internet; when they are downloaded from a website, such pictures are obtained at 72 or 96 dpi (dots per inch). Therefore, they should not be used for printing. Before submitting to printing, all colors are converted to the CMYK color palette, and the minimum value is 300 dpi. *DPI is the visual contrast, the resolution. The higher it is, the brighter and more transparent is the view. The main requirements for the Preparation of files for printing are the following.

Your computer screen shows colors in the RGB color palette, whereas printing is performed in the CMYK color palette. When converting from RGB to CMYK color palettes, all colors become slightly faded, i.e., they are not so bright and active anymore as the CMYK palette somewhat ‘stifles’ all colors. CMYK uses the color coding of “C – Cyan, M – Magenta, Y – Yellow, K – Black”, where, by mixing these four colors, all colors for printing are obtained.

Printing work

Business cards can be ordered by contacting via the e-mail address ausra.vaicekauskaite@ktu.lt.

Yes, this opportunity is provided by the publishing house. When you place an order, indicate in the notes for which day the order is placed, and, after completing the filing of the order, you must contact us on the phone. If we have the slightest opportunity, we will do our best to deliver your order in the minimal timeframe requested by you.

Files for printing should be presented in the .pdf format. Files must contain some allowance for cutting off. Requirements for presenting files for printing can be found at: Main requirements for presentation of files for printing.

This allowance is required for cutting off the edges of the printing file so that no margins should remain at the edges of the pages.

These sizes are available for poster printing. A .pdf or .tiff format file is required, and the exact size of the poster must be indicated.

Text preparation

A quire is 40,000 symbols including spaces, or 3,000 cm2 of printed area illustrations (figures), or 700 lines of a rhyming text. If, due to some reasons, the volume of a text in quires is impossible to establish, an equivalent of a quire is taken as 14 pages of text (when the text is produced in Times New Roman 12 pt or Arial 10–11 pt font); if a scientific product is delivered in some e-format, the volume in quires is determined by calculating only symbols including spaces.

Authors representing the university present the originals of their application and two reviews, and a transcription of the minutes of the relevant department. For the publication of a study book, a science monograph, a case study or a case description, additionally, a verdict of approval by the Publishing Committee in the application for publishing is required. More information is provided in the section Publishing.

Editors only work with the .doc format files. Editing is performed with the track changes turned on. When the author receives the edited text, the changes implemented in the text are thus made visible. While reviewing the edited version, the author still keeps the track changes turned on, and provides further changes and/or comments wherever required.

Shortlists for authors:

Yes, it is possible to do so. In this case, the author and the editor perform the editing in the .pdf format file, i.e., only notes on minor editing are posted as the initial editing process must have already been performed in the initial editing in a .doc format file.
